Another cable for additional installation in medium and high voltage lines is the All-Dielectric Self-Supporting (ADSS) cable. As said in the name the ADSS does not contain any metal elements. The fibres are placed in stranded plastic tubes which are covered by one or two plastic jackets. To make the cable self-supporting it contains strength elements made of aramide yarns. The excellent ratio of strength compared to weight of this material ensures the low weight of the ADSS and limits the additional loads for the pylons. The ADSS is a universal solution for a lot of applications ranging from short to long spans. With a capacity of 144 fibres or even more this cable technology offers a good opportunity to equip medium and high voltage lines with optical fibres. |
