Copper Accounting on Copper Cables

Download Technical Bulletin 2005_02 Copper Accounting/DEL-notation

Metal Price

Cables and wires are sold on daily price basis for metals like copper, aluminium or lead.

The DEL-notation (German notation for electrolytic copper for conductors), an amount dependent on metal exchange, is quoted in € (Euro)/100 kg copper (Cu) as well as for aluminium (Al) and lead (Pb).

The actual metal notations can be seen under www.kabelverband.de.

Example:

DEL 625,62 means: 100 kg electrolytic copper costs 625,62 €.

For cables and wires 1 % procurement cost have to be added to the daily notation. Therewith the price for 100 kg electrolytic copper (Cu) at actual date amounts up to 631,87 €.

Metal Number

The metal number is the metal weight to be accounted for of copper, aluminium or lead for cables and wires. For copper cable it reads copper number [kg/km]. Metal number are found in manufacturer´s data sheets.

Example:

The signalling cable A-2Y2YB2Y 20x1x1,4 S (H145) has a copper number of 312 kg/km.

Metal Basis

Most price lists already shows part of the whole metal pricing (copper, aluminium or lead) based on the individual metal number. For communication and signalling cables the metal basis (copper basis) is 100 €/100 kg copper.

That means: For each 100 kg copper within the cable 100 € are already included in the cable price. As the actual metal notation is much higher though, the difference needs to be added to the price on metal basis. The following formular shows the calculation:

     (DEL-Not. + 1 % procurment cost) [€/100 kg] - metal basis [€/100 kg]

     --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  x metal number [kg/km] =

                                                  100

extra pay for metal [€/km].

Example:

Signalling cable A-2Y2YB2Y 20x1x1,4 S LG acc. to Dlk 1.013.107 y

copper number 312 kg/km

DEL-Notation 625,62 €/100kg

Cu-basis 100 €/100 kg

shows an additional surcharge for metal of 1.659,45 €/km (acc. to previously shown formular), which need to be added to the regular cable price on copper basis 100 €/100 kg.
